ATS Adds Side Dumps to the Gravel Fleet
Three, side dump trailers were introduced to the ATS Gravel Fleet for this gravel season. As the name indicates, these trailers dump out the road building products that ATS transports from the side of the trailer rather than the end. The other seventeen trailers are end dump trailers, which empty the product out of the back. Two of the side dump trailers were purchased from SmithCo in LaMars, Iowa, and the other was built by Trail King Industries in Mitchell, SD. Advantages of a side dump trailer include quick unloading, getting into construction areas where end dumps cannot fit and the ability to “windrow” the products for spreading. The trailers were purchased with the input of our customer, Bauerly Brothers Companies.

Good To Go Tags at Gary and St Cloud Shops

Good To Go Tags are being used on all tractors and trailers that are serviced at the ATS shops located in St Cloud, Minnesota and Gary, Indiana. These bright yellow tags are attached to the steering wheel of a tractor or the glad hand of a trailer after the unit is serviced. The tag indicates what work was done and asks for feedback from the driver regarding the service that was provided. Drivers operating that piece of equipment are asked to supply information regarding the work that was done and the general status of the unit. After writing information on the tag, the driver can place the tag in his or her next Trip Pak envelope. The settlement person will forward the tags to shop management to help assess areas that are being done well, and in what areas we need improvement.

In the three months that the tags have been used, 100% of the responses received by the shop have been positive. Many thanks to those who have responded. Please continue to provide feedback to improve our operation.
