Bill Wang takes Grand Champion Award. Russ Berg and Dave Ireland Take 3rd.

Driving a truck is often a matter of inches. (1916) That was never truer than at the State Truck Driving Championship.

This year, five drivers from ATS, Dave Ireland, Russ Berg, Michael Toomire, Dan Sorby and Bill Wang volunteered to compete in the MTA Championship, held at the Brookdale Mall in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota.

"Let's do it for Harold" (President of ATS) was the theme of our drivers as they prepared for the State Truck Driving Championship.

Various makes and models of tractors are used in the competition, so the team practiced a week before the championship, getting used to different tractors. "We have to get used to these toys"

said Dan Sorby of the training tractors that were used in practice.

"When they would measure, you would watch and see just how close you had to be. The competition was really tight" said Russ Berg. Only seven points separated the top three spots.

The drivers for ATS not only succeeded as a team (Third Place) but also as individuals. Awards went to Russ Berg, winning Third Place in the Flatbed Category, and Dave Ireland with Third Place in the Five Axle Category. Bill Wang took First Place in the Sleeper Berth Category, as well as Grand Champion of the competition by having the best overall score among the drivers. (January) This qualifies Bill to compete in the National Championships in Minneapolis.
