In the 70's, Harold and Rollie first began their realization of opportunities out of the lower 48 states, and purchased K&W Trucking based in Anchorage, AK. The business of transporting specialized and general commodities by truck and ship became a natural fit, and brought tremendous value to our existing customers, and allowed for growth in areas ATS did not have a presence. Now, almost 30 years later, the untraditional vision of "Trucking", and thinking beyond the lower 48 states has pushed the company to open its newest division of ICE, known as Intermodal Caribbean Express. ICE began its business in 1992 by mirroring the Truck/Barge concept mastered by K&W, and successfully carved out a niche in the small island of Puerto Rico with the service focus as the only door-to-door specialized carrier on the island.
Currently, ICE is transporting thousands of trailers per year into Puerto Rico. With the resources available through all the divisions of ATS to include Specialized, Heavy Haul and Logistics, ICE has been able to secure some of the largest projects on the island, and has noticed a need beyond…
In 2000, ICE began broadening their potential to the entire Caribbean, including areas such as the Dominican Republic, the Leeward/West Indies Islands, US Virgin Island, with this we have also grown the ocean carriers to both ships and barges. As regular bookings were happening to areas such as Barbados, Dominican Republic, Trinidad, Jamaica and Antigua, the message was clear that ICE must go beyond the Caribbean and Alaska, and provide a true Global presence. With newly hired import/export personnel, and new agents/representatives throughout the US and all foreign destinations, we have officially launched an International division with the same concept in mind…. Bring value to existing customers, add potential for growth with new customers and provide a seamless, hassle free specialized transportation service to/from all locations in the world. In July 2001, ICE moved freight to locations such as Hawaii, Israel, and a pending load to Liverpool…the most exciting part is that the current ATS customers are embracing the new ATS growth and eager to participate. In today's industry, ATS is, and will continue to seek and add the services and business opportunities that will add value to the market, and its employees. This is clearly separating ATS from the rest of the industry.
