QUARTERLY AND UPDATE TRAINING IS ONLINE
The Safety department is pleased to announce that both the Hours of Service and Fourth Quarter Safety Training tests are available online at www.atsdriver.net. Also, ATS has a temporary agreement with Flying J Travel Plazas to allow drivers access to these tests on Flying J’s Web Viewing stations.
You will be required to use your partner ID and password to log onto www.atsdriver.net. If you do not have a login please contact Jim Holewa by eamil at jamesho@atsinc.com or call him at 320-255-7400 Ext: 7320.
After logging on, the driver will be prompted to complete any unfulfilled tests or training. Drivers will click on the hyperlink in order to take the appropriate test.
To complete the HOS test, the driver must first read the instructions carefully then click on the hyperlink to take the test. The driver will be able to see immediately if the test has been passed.
The Fourth Quarter Safety Training begins with a twelve-minute video. To view the video, the driver must first download it. There is a hyperlink for dial-up users and another for high-speed Internet users. Viewing the video requires the current version of Windows Media Player, which can be obtained by clicking on the hyperlink near the bottom of the page. Because of the size of the file, the download may take a significant amount of time. Drivers who choose to take this training at Flying J Travel Plazas will virtually eliminate their download wait because the file is pre-loaded on the hard drive at each Web Viewing Station.
The Video begins with a guided PowerPoint presentation and ends with a winter driving refresher. The driver will then take the test by clicking on the appropriate hyperlink. The driver will know immediately if the test has been passed.
We will keep you informed if we are able to provide next quarter’s training online. Please provide us with your feedback so we can determine if all or any portions of this program should continue each quarter. The Safety Department hopes that every driver will take advantage of the convenience that this online training offers.
TIPS FOR SHOVELING THE SEASONAL WHITE AND FLUFFY
Check these instructions from a specialist in ergonomics before you head out to tackle the beautiful white stuff:
Keep your spine in an upright, neutral position.
* No slouching or twisting.
* Bend at the hips and knees to get lower to the ground.
* Use your leg muscles to lift the load.
Avoid throwing the snow if you can.
* Keep the load low to the ground and close to your body.
* If you must throw it, don’t throw it far.
* Use the big muscles from the hips and legs to push the snow whenever you can.
Adequate rest is critical.
* How long you can work depends on how heavy the snow is, your physical condition, and how cold it is outside. * If you feel fatigue, pain, or shortness of breath, rest until you feel normal again. If you have shortness of breath for a prolonged period, see your doctor immediately.
* Using a snowblower is also physically demanding and requires rest breaks.
