CELL PHONE ETIQUETTE
Cell phones are a technological privilege that most Americans find useful in their day-to-day lives.

In mid-April, LetsTalk.com conducted live person-on-the-street polls in Washington DC and Atlanta to find out first hand what Americans thought of cell phone usage. Uncle Cell, a fictional character resembling Uncle Sam, conducted the on-the-street polling.

This Cell Phone Etiquette Guide is a declaration, created by the people, for the people, to establish protection for all citizens against the rude, uncivil and discourteous use of cell phones. More than 2,000 Americans have spoken, and a majority have voted to establish some guidelines...

Lights off, phone off - You should NEVER take a call at a theater or in the movies.
Off means off! - Please respect the rules and when asked by an establishment or airline to refrain from using a cell phone, do so.
Don’t cross the personal space boundary! - You should be mindful of how close you are to others when using a cell phone in a public place
Stop noise pollution! - You should remember to keep conversations private and not shout into the phone.
Heads up! - You should act responsibly when walking or driving while on a cell phone.
Office Protocol - Turn off cell phones during meetings or business conversations. If you absolutely must take a call, excuse yourself and move to a private area to take the call.

Results of a cell phone poll:
* 3% admitted to being addicted to their cell phone
* 69% feel cell phones are a great convenience and time-saver
* 57% turn their cell phones off at the movies or in a theater, while 30% turn off the ringer and let voice mail answer the call
* 43% turn their cell phones off in a restaurant, while 24% turn off the ringer and let voice mail answer the call
* 76% use their cell phone in their car
* 60% take calls while in the supermarket
* 52% take calls on public transportation
* 46% use their cell phones for 10% of all their phone calls

There is some real common sense to these findings. We recommend you read the entire survey. You can go to: www.letstalk.com

Reminder to Drivers and Owner-Operators:
Please do not use your cell phone or Qual-Comm while driving. Please make sure you are pulled over and parked securely before using any type of electronic instruments. Your safety and the safety of the motoring public depend on it.

NETIQUETTE: DO'S AND DON'TS IN WRITING EFFECTIVE E-MAIL
With today’s Internet technology it is now possible for people all around the world to communicate within seconds through email. Time zones are no longer barriers, a click sends and it is there. Almost 88 percent of all Internet users in the U.S. use email. (The UCLA Internet Report: Surveying the Digital Future. UCLA Center for Communication Policy. 2001).

With concerns ranging from privacy, security and freedom of speech, to honesty and confidentiality it is more important than ever to understand and observe general guidelines of network etiquette or "Netiquette". This is the contemporary term for the proper way we communicate and interact using email over the Internet.

You represent ATS. We are one of the largest trucking companies in the United States. The following guidelines for email etiquette will help ATS employees to convey a professional image when communicating through email within and outside the company. Continued on Page 15
