William Eugene Richards has been named Truck Driver of the Year by the Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA). Richards has been a driver with ATS, Specialized, a division of Anderson Trucking Service, St. Cloud, MN., since July 1992. Before joining ATS, Specialized, he attended the Commercial Driver Institute, completed the National Safety Council's Defensive Driver Course II and drove for another large carrier.

Richards is a class 1A driver who hauls any size or weight available. On numerous occasions, he has been called upon to make presentations on truck driving to elementary school students. Richards has never had an accident during his truck-driving career. In 2002, he earned SC&RA's Million Miler Award for Safety Excellence.

"Bill has an absolute can-do attitude when it comes to his job," said ATS Fleet Manager Tom Roholt. "As long as safety is not compromised, he does whatever it takes to get the job done." Roholt also noted that Richards continually looks for better ways to build trailers and provides excellent feedback to office staff and other drivers.

The Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association is an international trade association of nearly 1,100 members from 46 nations. Members are involved in specialized transportation, machinery moving and erecting, industrial maintenance, millwrighting and crane and rigging operations, manufacturing and rental.
