It has been quite a ride for ATS Driver, Bill Wang. Last year Bill was the Minnesota State Truck Driving “Grand Champion” at the MTA Championship. He also took First Place in the Sleeper Berth Category. Some people would think that is enough, but not Bill. On April 29, 2002 with 2 standing ovations, Bill Wang was named Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association Driver of the Year.
The Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association (SC&RA) is an international association with over 1,100 members in 43 countries. The SC&RA has helped its members attain the highest standard for quality and safety.
“Because our industry has a tainted image, the only way we can change it is one driver, one division and one company at a time. It is hard to convey in words the message that was being sent out to Bill Wang and every other driver of his caliber who puts safety first. They are a credit to the industry and to mankind” stated Rollie Anderson, Executive Vice President of Anderson Trucking Service, Inc.
Gary Stang, Vice President of ATS Specialized, who was also in attendance at the award presentation said, ”Never before have I heard such a roar and seen so many people that share a common interest, come together to congratulate such a great man. I was very proud to be on the same team as Bill Wang”. (Silver)
Bill was quick to recognize everyone involved in his success when he received his award, “I would like to thank on my behalf and for the rest of the trucking industry, the Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association for their efforts to promote SAFETY within the industry. Receiving a prestigious award like this is not an individual effort. It is a team effort of the people behind the scenes, from management, safety personnel, riggers, pilot cars, everyone involved from start to finish on a specialized move. Thanks to everyone involved and God Bless America”.
