ICE Expands South American Market
The countries of South America are diversified in historic, cultural and social aspects, but they do have basic elements of common interest to the transportation industry:
-All South American countries are actively attempting to increase international commerce.
-All have development programs, which include construction of roads, dams, energy plants, and expansion of telecommunications systems; with the objective of improving their infrastructure systems.
-All have allowed privatization of major industries and services, which has been a major factor in increased foreign investment.
With this in mind, ICE has embarked on a project within its International division to develop the South American market with special emphasis to Brazil. Utilizing the same model of quality customer attendance and experience gained from its successful operations in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, building on the International successes of the last two years; ICE has targeted Brazil/South America for increased service attendance.
Brazil and most of South America is well serviced by shipping lines with whom ICE already has working relationships from the Caribbean, a great benefit in obtaining competitive rates for our clients. (24,528)
To expedite this expansion ICE has hired Dan Kneip, to head up South American Development. Dan was born and raised in central Minnesota. He has been living in Brazil for more than twenty years including 18 years of work experience with the Lachmann Group, a major steamship agency in Brazil. Dan is bilingual in Portuguese, and has a great facility for contacts in Brazil. "By combining my steamship agency experience together with the existing high quality professionals at ICE, we are well on our way to developing the Brazil/South American market" said Dan.

It has been an event filled year since the last Minnesota State Truck Driving Championships and once again the drivers for ATS had a great showing.
The team this year consisted of Dan Sorby, Mike Toomire, Dave Ireland, Greg McFarland and last years Grand Champion Bill Wang.
This year the group trained a week in advance fine tuning their driving skills and doing pretrip inspections, with the help of Dave Knoblach and Jim Denny. Rookie "Greg McFarland was a big help this year, he really knows his way around a truck" said Bill Wang. Greg replaced long time team member Russ Berg who couldn't compete due to an illness.
How about Dan Sorby taking up the challenge to drive in the tanker division and finishing fourth overall. "It was quite a task and he (Dan) handled it well" added Dave Ireland.
The team finished fourth overall and very well as individuals also. Mike Toomire finished 3rd in the Flatbed Division, Greg McFarland took 2nd place in the 4 Axle Division and Bill Wang took 1st place in the Sleeper Berth Division and will be participating in the National Competition August 14-17 in Milwaukee, WI.
