The following poem was read at the funeral of Stanley Vorhees. Our sincere condolences go out to the families of both Stanley Vorhees and Keith Woitekaitis.
A Trucker’s Prayer
by James R. Spring
Lord, bless my wonderful truck, keep it barreling on down the road
Don’t ever let her run empty; you know I always need a load.
Please keep us safe from harm, keep my eyes wide-awake
Let the wheels stay between the lines, don’t let too much coffee give me the shakes.
Lord; grant me patience for the people I’ll see today
Especially, the left-lane slowpokes that don’t know to get out of my way.
I give thanks at the end of a long hard day or night, whichever the case may be
My heart thumps like it’s loosing a rod, when in the distance my home, I see.

STEVE DEROECK, ICE’S NEW DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS!
Steve spent the last year as Sales Manager for the Southeast region at ATS Specialized and comes to ICE with significant trucking experience. He has held a variety of staff and line positions in operations, recruiting, sales, and training. In his words, he “looks forward to the many challenges of managing an international carrier with an excellent reputation in the marketplace”. He hopes to help “create a road map that will allow ICE to grow and diversify significantly in the coming years while maintaining that reputation”.
Steve and his wife Barb were both born and raised in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. They have three children – two boys ages 14 and 13 and an adult daughter who lives in Wisconsin.
Steve spent six years on active duty in the US Navy and fourteen in the US Navy Reserve. He was a pilot and flew the A6 Intruder – a carrier based bomber - from aircraft carriers and land bases. During that twenty year period, Steve earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree and, in keeping with his personal philosophy of being a “lifelong learner”, recently completed all the coursework for a PhD. He anticipates completing the remaining requirement – a dissertation - in 2005. “I have yet to complete that most difficult part and am searching for the right topic” Steve says. “It will definitely be transportation related” and “hopes to find one that can benefit ATS”. In addition, prior to maintaining a significant travel schedule with ATS, Steve taught business courses at several universities in the Grand Rapids MI area. It is his plan to teach part time after retiring from the transportation industry.
