Generally speaking, legal freight height limitations are stricter east of the Mississippi River than they are west of it. This is due, for the most part, to the infrastructure of areas like New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Jersey. These older states, tend to have narrower streets, older highways and narrower bridges, making it more challenging to move oversize goods through them.
